Minister for Agriculture and National Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu has stressed that the government is doing its best to feed the right food to its people.
He made this comment in Parliament today after Opposition MP, Niko Nawaikula asked Seruiratu on what food security initiatives they can look forward to as a result of the signing of the resilient project agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organisation.
Seruiratu then said that he has already talked about training 10,000 farmers under this project so that they can learn to produce better yields with limited land capacity that they have.
Meanwhile, according to Seruiratu, the World Risk Report of the UN in 2014, identified Fiji amongst 15 most exposed countries to natural hazards.
He says Fiji is amongst the worst affected and most vulnerable when it comes to climate change and disasters and this involves the risk of cyclones, floods and storm surges.
