Do not get alarmed if you see swarms of termites near your homes.
That is the advice from the Bio-security Authority of Fiji to Lautoka residents as they ask people to take precautionary measures to stop the termites from entering and forming new colonies in their homes.
Authority CEO Elvis Silvestrini said Asian Subterranean termites swarm during this time of the year as they develop wings and fly around to start new colonies.
Lautoka residents are requested to close all windows and doors from 6.30pm to 8pm and light small fires in a controlled area outside their homes.
Also, switch off all lights outside their homes and use minimal lightings inside.
The National Fire Authority in Lautoka is also on standby to help people in need.
