The Ministry of Education has suspended a teacher in the Western Division who is alleged to have locked a Year 2 student in a fridge last week.
Minister for Education Dr Mahendra Reddy said the Disciplinary Board met on Friday to discuss the incident and has decided to suspend the teacher.
Doctor Reddy said he will see the report from the board on Monday.
He said the teacher who has a few more years before retiring has other cases against him.
Doctor Reddy said if other cases against him were dealt with, this incident would not have happened in the first place.
He added that the student is currently undergoing counseling and is recovering at home.
Dr. Reddy said he will make sure this does not happen again in the future.
Meanwhile, Police have questioned and released the teacher.
He is expected to be charged later.
