The Fiji Medical and Dental Secretariat has confirmed that the investigation into a case where a 35-year-old taxi driver was allegedly diagnosed and treated for an eye disease he did not have, is almost completed.
This has been confirmed by the Secretariat’s CEO Dharmesh Prasad.
The man had also claimed he was given expired medicine to treat his eye.
This follows a question raised by Public Accounts Committee member Aseri Radrodro on how much time is taken for such complaints to be investigated.
Prasad informed the committee that this depends on the severity of the complaints.
Opposition member Sela Nanovo then asked the Secretariat how they deal with fake doctors and what measures are in place to stop these incidents.
Prasad clarified that the matter is then reported to Police.
