A Taiwanese fishing boat was destroyed in a fire at the Suva Harbour this morning.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Fiji Fish CEO Darryl Hodson says the fire started at around midnight.

He says that they were able to get people off the boat and it was then towed a few metres further from the harbour for safety measures.

Hodson says that the boat came in roughly a week ago to offload fish and was expected to leave Fiji today.

He believes the fire started in the engine room.
