Permanent Secretary of iTaukei Affairs, Naipote Katonitabua has confirmed that the issue of land ownership at the Vaturu Dam has been dealt with and the Itaukei Land Trust Board is finalizing the lease and compensation for the landowners.
Katonitabua confirms that TLTB is working with Water Authority of Fiji on the lease and the other arrangements to compensate the landowners.
The Ministry of iTaukei Affairs led a composite team of officials from the Lands Ministry, Water Authority of Fiji, TLTB and met with all relevant stakeholders in Vaturu in both villages of Nagado and Natawa in mid 2016.
In all those meetings, the Ministry of Itaukei Affairs and Native Lands Commission reconfirmed that the disputed land belongs to mataqali Qoqa and copies of the Registrar of Native Land and associated maps were provided to mataqali of Qoqa, Sautabu, Navuke and Raravaki.
He says that as far as the land boundaries is concerned, they have achieved a resolution and established which land owning unit actually owns which parts of the land.
