A partner of Huawei Technologies in Fiji, Telecom Fiji Limited says it will respond in due course to questions about whether there are “security concerns” over the work the Chinese multinational technology company is doing in the country.
The Australian government has announced Huawei and rival Chinese infrastructure firm ZTE would not be able to use its technology in upcoming 5G networks.
New Zealand has also followed suit with a similar ban.
Huawei denies that its products could be used for spying.
Huawei Technologies made its entry into the Fijian market in 2002 and has assisted TFL with the rollout of the 4G+ network in 2016 and currently the 10G Passive Optical all fiber network which ultra fast fiber broadband.
The ultra fast fiber broadband is the first of its kind in the islands of the South Pacific region.
A Huawei press release in 2015 said that the company will bring the world's latest communications technologies and products such as 5G and 100G submarine cables into Fiji.
Fijivillage has also asked the Minister for Communications if it has made an assessment about Huawei’s work in the country and whether it has identified the security concerns.
