The Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Board says any person under the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme is listed under the Immigration Controversial List and cannot travel overseas until they get a letter from TSLB.
TSLB has made this clear after concerns raised by a Suva man that his 21-year-old daughter, who is a TELS student, could not travel to Adelaide for a holiday from yesterday to January 12th, 2017.
The concerned parent says his daughter who has one and a half years left in the Bachelor of Pharmacy course, had the return air ticket and was stopped by the Immigration Department at Nadi Airport yesterday.
The officials demanded the bond letter before she could leave the country.
She could not board the flight as the requirement was not met on time.
Although the parent says that the daughter is just going for a holiday and not fleeing the country, TSLB says the requirements are clear in the TELS forms.
The board says any TELS student who wants to travel overseas for any purpose during the bond period must seek prior approval from TSLB as their names are in the Immigration Controversial List.
TSLB says if they do not have the letter from TSLB, then the TELS students will definitely be stopped from leaving the country.
When contacted byFijivillage earlier this afternoon, the 21-year-old student’s father said that they now have the letter from TSLB and she is allowed to leave the country for the holiday.
