Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald has confirmed that a task team arrested Suva resident Joseva Bilitaki at about 10.30pm last Friday.
Groenewald said Bilitaki was detained at the Totogo Police Station for the alleged offence of annoyance which is in contravention to Section 376 of the Crimes Decree.
The Commissioner said at 3pm Saturday, Bilitaki fell ill and was released and taken to the CWM Hospital where he received medical treatment for high blood pressure.
Groenewald confirmed that he visited him earlier today and he is in a satisfactory condition.
The Police Commissioner stressed that the allegation of assault against Bilitaki is void of all truth.
He is urging people not to jump to conclusion on what they read on social media.
The case is under investigation and will be submitted to the Office of the Director Public Prosecutions once completed.
Commissioner Groenewald also said that the interference of military personnel in policing issues is unacceptable and will be discussed with the relevant authority.
The Police Commissioner said no more comments will be made on these issues until the investigation is completed and the case docket is sent to the DPP’s Office.
