A 19-year-old man was today told to get a job and do something with his life after Suva Magistrate Deepika Prakash gave him a suspended sentence for stealing chocolates in August last year.
He was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for theft today but it was suspended for one year.
This means that the man will not face any time behind bars but if he reoffends he may be charged under the Sentencing and Penalties Act and his suspended sentence may be activated.
After delivering her sentence, Magistrate Prakash addressed the man directly and told him that the court was not a place for a 19-year-old.
She then urged the man to get a job and do something his life stressing that she did not want to see him in court again.
The man stole five Cadbury chocolates which was valued at around $47.25 from Max Value Supermarket on 26th August last year.
At the time the offence took place, the man was a student of John Wesley College.
