According to the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre survey, 64% of our very own women here in Fiji are subjected to unacceptable violence.
This was highlighted by Permanent Secretary for Women Dr Josefa Koroivueta while speaking at the Gender Based Violence and Human Rights Training for Senior Officers of the Ministry of Itaukei Affairs at Warwick Hotel today.
Koroivueta told the 35 participants present that Fijian women suffer violence including physical, sexual or emotional violence and quite often the only choice is to flee to seek help adding that as representatives of organizations they provide this assistance.
He reiterated that the Service Delivery Protocol which the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs is committed to is providing is a common set of principles and guidelines to ensure survivors of Gender Based Violence, mostly women and girls, receive the best care and treatment.
Koroivueta says this ensures the provision of appropriate, timely and quality services for survivors of gender‑based violence together with accountability and justice for perpetrators.
The 35 participants that were present at the workshop include the Roko Tui’s and Assistant Roko Tui’s from Provinces around the country as well as senior officials of the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.
