Only 21% of people with disabilities have completed primary school according to the National Disability Survey conducted in 2010.
Speaking at the workshop on Strategic Implementation Plan for the Policy on Special and Inclusive Education, Minister of Education, Dr. Mahendra Reddy says the ministry will develop a strategy to improve and provide access to quality education for children, youth and adults with disabilities.
Reddy says they will plan for how the principle of “No One Left Behind” is enacted.
Meanwhile, Reddy is also aware of an impressive growth in the number of children being supported to transition from special schools to mainstream schools in recent times.
He says for some children, these attempted transitions do not work and he is hoping to see a proper examination of the challenges.
