Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete confirms that there has been a surge in the number of patients in health facilities within the Lami to Nausori corridor.
Waqainabete says that according to recent research within the health facilities, the surge is due to Acute Febrile illness which is a sudden fever or elevation in body temperature that is associated with a flu.
He says that with the amount of awareness being made in various communities more people are now presenting to their nearest hospitals if they suspect the slightest fever and headache.
The Health Minister has also stressed that the ministry has mechanisms in place to address the surge of patients that include a coordinated effort with Divisional Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents are working in integrated care.
Waqainabete also touched on claims made on the issue of water shortage in health facilities due to the increase in the number of patients and he has made it clear that the Health Ministry has in place water tanks at each health facility to continue with operations.
