A supermarket owner has raised concerns about two Health Inspectors who allegedly confiscated $700 worth of meat and fined the supermarket $1,000 for a “No Smoking” sticker.
The owner said they tried to seek an explanation from the Health Inspectors but they were aggressive and did not give a chance to the staff to explain how the meat had been delivered to the supermarket less than an hour before the Inspectors arrived.
He said what surprises him is that the Tobacco Control Unit officers had inspected the supermarket together with the restaurant and told them everything was fine.
When he explained the same to the Health Inspector, they became furious saying why he was questioning them.
Assistant Minister for Health, Veena Bhatnagar said they have received the letter and they have launched an investigation into the allegations.
Bhatnagar said they have also sent their Health Officers to the supermarket and are expected to submit a report to the Ministry soon.
