32 loose containers have been safely removed from the site of the Sunken MV Southern Phoenix.
This includes 4 tank‑tainers and 1 trailer.
This was carried out through the Fiji Ports Corporation Limited shore crane and closely monitored by pollution officers from the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji.
MSAF CEO, John Tunidau says the salvage team and MSAF continues to monitor the site for any signs of oil leaks and has teams on standby to respond should the need arise.
He says the removal or extraction of fuel oil contained in ships tank have commenced.
