Stakeholders from the Sugar Industry held a Strategic Action Group (SAG) meeting in Labasa to review all reforms that have been undertaken to develop the industry.
Strategic Action Planner Michael Parker said the origins of the SAP started 25 months ago where an agreed, realistic and industry‑led action plan that benefits from full government support was crafted in a manner that reflects market and economic realities.
Parker said the SAP industry target for this year is to have 50,000 total hectares in production and have 2,750,000 sugarcane productions with 289,474 tonnes of sugar produced.
The meeting was chaired by the Ministry of Sugar Acting Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand.
