The latest transportation studies conducted by the Ministry of Transport has found that 70% of people still travel by foot.
This has been highlighted by FRA General Manager‑Central Aram Goes says that FRA has an extensive Footpath Program for 2018/2019 across Viti Levu and Vanua Levu including Wainibuku Rd, Savusavu Town and Ba Town Roads.
He adds that FRA is always looking to include new footpaths in many of the road upgrade projects where this has safety benefits.
Goes also explained the current upgrade work in progress on Queens Road, by the Navua Hospital which will see provision of new footpaths and designated safe pedestrian crossing points.
FRA has stated that the latest development on this project is the completion of the Kalabu Bridge walkway which will improve safety and access for people that were previously required to cross on the bridge deck.
