Students who are studying Emergency Medicine through Fiji National University’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences will continue to receive specialist training.
This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by FNU Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Healey and Australasian College for Emergency Medicine President Dr Simon Judkins yesterday afternoon.
FNU Vice Chancellor Professor Healey says in Fiji, the field of Emergency Medicine is still fresh and untapped and a lot can be achieved through collaboration and partnerships in teaching, training, research, guidelines, policy, forums and debate.
Australasian College for Emergency Medicine President Dr Judkins says that through activities such as building and developing staff capacity and sharing of teaching resources and curriculum, ACEM and FNU will be able to work towards the common goal of promoting the creation and growth of the specialty of emergency medicine in Fiji.
Meanwhile, Australasian College for Emergency Medicine also announced Dr Deepak Sharma, who completed his Masters in Emergency Medicine from FNU’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, as the recipient of the Mika Ah Kuoi Award for Excellence.
Funded by the ACEM Foundation, the award is presented to the highest performing student in the Master of Emergency Medicine program in Fiji.
Upon receiving his award Dr Sharma says he felt very happy, satisfied and humbled on being this year’s recipient of the Mika ah Kuoi award.
