It was a night that will forever be etched in the memories of the students of Queen Victoria School.
Jai Narayan College student Ratu Manoa Rokotavaga has shared through his essay the struggle of the boarders of QVS to keep themselves safe in the height of Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Rokotavaga recalled the events of Winston through the head boy of QVS.
He says they heard a loud crash on the roof and acted quickly.
Rokotavaga says as a student he can also relate to the hurt and helplessness of the students of QVS which is how he easily brought the emotion to his story.
Rokotavaga was among the three hundred students who described personal tribulations during TC Winston.
He was one of the two students that took out supreme awards.
Cema Malumalumu is the second student who received the top award.
She was a student at Koro Island High School when TC Winston struck her island. She is currently studying at Lautoka Muslim College.
Both won a laptop with data, trophies and plaques for both their respective schools.
This year’s essay writing competition was offered by the NZ High Commission.
