A storm warning remains in force for Ono-i-Lau and Vatoa.
A gale warning remains in force for Kabara, Fulaga, Ogea, Namuka, Komo and Moce.
A strong wind warning remains in force for Southern Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Northern Lau and Lomaiviti.
The centre of Tropical Cyclone Winston which is now a category 2 system was located about 275 kilometres South West of Ono-i-Lau at midday today.
The cyclone is moving East North East at about 24 kilometres per hour.
Close to its centre, the cyclone is estimated to have average winds of 110 kilometres per hour and momentary gusts to 155 kilometres per hour.
The Nadi Weather Office says on this track, the cyclone is expected to be located about 65 kilometres South South East of Ono-i-Lau at midnight tonight.
Damaging winds may begin several hours before the cyclone centre passes overhead or nearby.
Heavy swells and sea flooding is also expected.
For Southern Viti Levu, Northern Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands: moderate to fresh westerly winds, gusty at times.
Winds increasing to strong with average speed of 45 kilometres per hour and momentary gusts of 80 kilometres per hour from this afternoon.
People can also expect heavy rain and thunderstorms.
National Disaster Management Director, Akapusi Tuifagalele is calling on people to take necessary precautions.
Tuifagalele says people in Southern Lau are already experiencing cyclonic winds.
The schools in Lau were closed earlier today and evacuation centres have been set up.
Tuifagalele says people in Southern Viti Levu should also ensure that the weak structures are secured.
People are also advised that heavy rain can lead to flash flooding.
