There is still no word on when all the municipal councils will hold their elections.
Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment Parveen Kumar refused to comment when questioned by Fijivillage on when the municipal elections will be held.
Kumar had earlier said that his immediate task is to see that the municipal council elections take place around the country.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said they have not been informed by the Local Government Ministry on when it plans to hold the municipal elections.
Section 154 subsection 1 of the Electoral Decree of 2014 states that following the completion of the first general election of the members of Parliament under the constitution and the decree, the Fijian Election Elections Office shall be responsible for the conduct of the elections of the all registered trade unions, municipalities and such other elections as determined by the Minister by a notice published in the gazette.
