State prosecutor says Jone Cokanauto is an insult to Christianity

State lawyer, Meli Vosawale has today told the Suva High Court that Leader of Jezreel Lion of Judah Jone Cokanauto is an insult to Christianity.

While making his closing submission in the rape trial, Vosawale said Cokanauto is a lying, deceitful and cunning man.

He said that Cokanauto used the gospel which has saved many around the world, to satisfy his sexual gratification.

Vosawale said that Cokanauto used the bible and his teachings to let the women believe that he had the water of life that could redeem them.

He said some of the women consented because they believed the teachings of the accused.

Defence lawyer, Simione Valenitabua told the three assessors that they must not see his client as a pastor, but see him fairly like any other person charged with a similar offence.

He said the standard is the same for everyone.

Valenitabua also said that they should not consider anything outside this courtroom saying he even saw a facebook post the other day by the media that said his client is God.

He said that this is a court of law and not morality.

Valenitabua said that it is against the word of the complainants and his client as the prosecution has failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.

He also said that his client has also said that redemption is only done to the land and human beings are delivered.

Valenitabua said “what woman is raped in Nadera and follows the rapist to Taveuni”.

He said that we are talking about adult women who know the police process and could have filed a complaint after the incident happened in 2005 and 2006.
