Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu has said the challenges from climate change are such that we need to pursue knowledge and technologies on climate smart agriculture.
Speaking at the Stakeholders Meeting in developing Fiji’s First E-Agriculture Strategy, Seruiratu said these include precision agriculture techniques among others that are fundamental for an island nation like Fiji to successfully adapt and mitigate the risks involved.
He said ICTs can transform lives and improve livelihoods for people involved in agriculture and allied activities.
Seruiratu said the three-day workshop conducted this week has stated the process with the E-agriculture experts group.
He said a team from various ministries, department and organizations have identified the challenges and priorities in achieving the national agriculture goal and further identified the areas where ICTs can make a difference.
Seruiratu said a national e-agriculture strategy will help to identify and address some of those challenges in a comprehensive manner and help Fiji leverage the best outcomes from emerging and innovative technologies.
