The Staff Union of the University of the South Pacific protested at the University's Laucala campus yesterday regarding various matters that affect the University staff that have not been resolved since 2015.
Staff Union Secretary Litiana Waqalevu revealed that the protest was in regards to 18 issues that are still with the USP management.
She says some of the issues include, pending staff appeals from 2013 to 2015 and contract letters that have not been sent out to the staff.
Waqalevu says the University had given 6 months’ notice for the closure of the maintenance unit and the University mail‑room.
She says the University then said it will not re‑deploy or get anybody back, but the USP Staff Union found, that USP had started advertising those positions in another area of USP which is now commercial.
According to Waqalevu the Union has been raising these issues with the USP management since January 2016.
She says it has been 10 months and the USP management has done nothing about it.
Waqalevu says their next option is strike action.
University of the South Pacific's Media & Public Relations Coordinator Ana Tamani says a statement will be released on Monday.
The USP Staff Union has 384 members.
