As the nation is looking forward to the announcement of the 2015 National Budget, Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou said most experts agree that sports is an important element in the development of the youth.
Tuitubou said they have submitted their budget to the Ministry of Finance with some initiatives that they want to continue from next year including the building of sports facilities in rural areas and the “Engagement of Overseas Coaches Program”.
Tuitubou added that other areas they want to strengthen is the financial assistance for youth groups, to encourage them in income generating programs to help their families and develop their communities.
Last year the government allocated $2 million on integrated rural sports complexes in Rakiraki, Seaqaqa, Vunidawa and Korovou, offering top‑level sporting facilities.
$4.1 million was allocated for the construction of the sporting complexes in Gau and Kadavu which have yet to be constructed.
For the Youth Training Centers, the government allocated $765,000 to upgrade the infrastructure at Naleba, Naqere, Yavitu and Sigatoka.
