Seven people who were in police custody following a raid by Operation Sasamaki in Kadavu are expected to appear in a special court sitting this morning at the Suva Magistrates court.
The seven who were in custody at the Nabua Police Station were alleged to have cultivated marijuana in a farm in Kadavu.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man from Nabulini Village, Wainibuka Tailevu charged with alleged cultivation of illicit drugs has been remanded in custody by the Nausori Magistrates court.
The man was arrested following a morning raid in the interior of the Wainibuka highlands.
He is expected to appear in court next month.
Twenty-two people have been arrested so far for their alleged involvement in drug cultivation as part of Operation Sasamaki.
Police Chief Operations Officer, ACP Rusiate Tudravu says nine people were arrested in the Northern division for their alleged involvement in the cultivation of marijuana, six people from Kadavu were charged and produced including the seven who will appear in court this morning.
Tudravu said another suspect who is also wanted for a raid conducted on a farm at Delasese Settlement last year is still on the run and a team is looking for him.
He added that his officers trekked for almost seven hours to get to the farm where the plants believed to be marijuana was cultivated and this shows their commitment to eradicate the cultivation of this illicit drug.
