Speaking in the English language was the biggest challenge leading up to becoming one of the 4 emerging designers for the 2018 Fiji Fashion week.

This was highlighted by emerging designer, Laisiasa Davetawalu who this year will be showcasing his latest line.

The 20-year-old who grew up in Sigatoka recalls he found it difficult to string 2 words together at his first showing in 2016 where he also won Student Designer of the Year award.

He says his passion for fashion began very early in school and after 2016 he engaged in watching fashion shows on YouTube and learnt how to sew, do bead embroidery and watched Fashion tutorials.

Davetawalu says his love for colours, timeless fashion, bead embroidery and art was the main focus in his designs.

The fashion designer for the brand Elaradi says his line is inspired by everything he came across when he visited his island of birth, Kadavu, that he visited last year.

Fiji Fashion Week will be held at 7.30 tonight and 7.30pm tomorrow at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
