The Speaker of Parliament Doctor Jiko Luveni has ruled that Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum did not breach the Standing Order during the debate on the motion on the 2014 Fiji Police Force Annual Report.
This is after a point of order raised by SODELPA MP Viliame Gavoka saying that Sayed-Khaiyum must withdraw a statement made during the debate.
Dr Luveni says she had to watch the proceedings again and also peruse the uncorrected copy of the hansard to see whether the Acting Prime Minister had breached the Standing Orders in the debate.
Dr Luveni stated that Gavoka said that Sayed-Khaiyum was making an inflammatory statement that only certain people from a certain province would join the police force.
Dr Luveni stated that inflammatory comments are provocative and seditious in nature and she did not hear the Acting Prime Minister make any inflammatory or seditious words which would warrant a withdrawal.
