Students of Marist Brothers High School asked the Speaker of the House Dr. Jiko Luveni if she is neutral during the Parliament sittings.
Dr. Luveni visited the school under a program called “Meet the Speaker”.
Dr. Luveni says as she plays the role of a referee in Parliament and at the end of the day decisions on particular issues are based on the number of votes taken in Parliament.
Dr. Luveni explained to the students that the Government will always win as they hold majority of the seats in Parliament.
Another question raised by the students is why the Speaker has to wear a wig during parliament sittings.
Dr. Luveni says it is the official dress code of any Speaker in the world.
She adds the previous wigs did not fit her which resulted in the Government purchasing a new one costing them around $39,000.
Dr Luveni also visited International School Suva yesterday.
