Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum stresses that  it is incorrect to say that there was no consultations with the unions about the reforms in the civil service.

While speaking at the Fiji Headteachers Association Conference at Swami Vivekananda College Hall, Sayed Khaiyum says that at all times the unions were given invitations, and they took part in some consultations while they did not show up for some.

The Acting Prime Minister also said that some unionists are now going on campaigns and are aligned to political parties.

Sayed-Khaiyum says he also completely agrees that the ministries need to get professional human resource people.

He says the government has allocated 1.025 billion dollars to the education sector in the current budget. Sayed-Khaiyum says they need to look after teachers to ensure that the students get the best education.

Sayed-Khaiyum also apologized for any of the goofups by the Education Ministry Human Resources Department.

He says they are cleaning up the HR departments, restructuring all the district education offices, and are also getting counsellors for schools so that the headteachers are not burdened by other issues.
