Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum says that some students who studied under the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme migrated without paying their debt.
Sayed‑Khaiyum made these comments after a student from FNU Natabua Campus asked him what is the criteria to travel overseas if he was under the TELS Program.
He says students under the National Toppers and TELS do not necessarily have to work for the government.
Sayed‑Khaiyum highlighted that if a student who is under the TELS wants to travel overseas, they have to provide a surety that they will return.
He also says if students want to migrate overseas they have to pay their debt.
He adds under the accelerated method students who pay a certain percent of their debt during certain periods of time then government writes off some percent of their debt
