Some security companies owe their workers over $2 million in wages and overtime pay.
This was revealed in Parliament by the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Semi Koroilavesau when a member of parliament Balmindar Singh asked him to advise the House on the progress the Ministry has made on investigating complaints against security companies in Fiji.
Koroilavesau said their compliance section is working to try and regain this money and to pay the security company workers.
He said they have spent the last 10 years trying to regulate the wages of security workers.
He said security workers were paid an hourly rate of $1.81 initially and the regulated wages now is $2.51 for permanent workers while casual workers are paid $3.14.
Korilavesau said the Ministry has conducted 31 labor inspections and their compliance section is working on these issues.
