The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development has revealed that there are challenges in the maritime areas where sometimes they are not able to finish projects.

Commissioner Central Setareki Tale highlighted this to the  Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts adding that at times they just cannot secure contractors to complete these projects.

He revealed this when Opposition MP, Salote Radrodro asked Tale on how his Ministry can justify the virement of funds for projects from one division to another.

Radrodro stated that at times funds for projects have been moved from Eastern Division to Northern or Western Division.

Tale then highlighted that some programs in Kadavu were not completed as they could not find contractors that could go to Kadavu.

He says Eastern Division remains the priority but the challenge is the securing of contractors and ferrying of equipment.

Tale says because of this, they sometimes have to move funds for projects in maritime areas to be utilised in other areas.

Radrodro then responded by saying that she is not satisfied with this explanation and stated that they still cannot see any reason why the Ministry cannot complete projects as prioritised by divisions.
