More than 30 primary schools around the country have received their instant library called an “Everyday Books Box Library” from the Fiji Department of Library Service.
Department of Library Service Director Merewalesi Vueti said they will be distributing more books this week.
Vueti said the Education Ministry and Vision Group who initiated the “Read to Lead Fiji” project are targeting schools that do not have a library.
Vueti said they also prioritize schools in the remote rural areas and they also look at the literacy level of the schools according to the Literacy and Numeracy Assessment results.
Vueti said there are 110 schools to pilot this project as they are expecting to receive another consignment by the end of the month, which will cover another 250 schools.
The instant library called an “Everyday Books Box Library” for Year 1 to Year 5 students includes 250 books at different reading levels, teaching resources, a CD-ROM, activity guides and lesson plans for teachers.
