Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Moore confirms that some ground conditions have delayed the replacement of the Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge.
This is after Fijivillage questioned Moore on when the new modular bridge will be put up as it was earlier confirmed to us that the bridge would be replaced by the third quarter of this year.
The CEO says this is just a delay and the 4 to 5 year plan to have another two‑lane bridge for the area and an alternative route is still being considered.
Meanwhile, the Tamavua‑i‑Wai Bridge will undergo weight and lane restrictions taking effect from 8am next Monday.
From 5am to 8pm daily the weight restriction is 20 tonnes.
According to the FRA, Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge will be reduced to a single lane from 8pm to 5am daily with a weight restriction of 32 tonnes in order to carry out maintenance works to the bridge substructure that will provide support to the deck.
The single lane and weight restriction will be in place for the next six weeks.
