Some families in Jittu Estate are without water and electricity since last month.
President of the Jittu Land Trust, Anup Chand said these families were told by the People’s Community Network that the water and electricity supply will be reconnected once they have relocated from the current site where the second phase of the Lagilagi Housing project is to start.
He said they have lodged the complaints to the Fiji Human Rights Commission as they have been denied access to basic needs.
Director of PCN, Semiti Qalowasa said PCN has assisted the families with their relocation and they were given $100 to assist the families with water reconnections.
When questioned by Fijivillage on why PCN directed the disconnection of water and electricity, Qalowasa said these families have not responded after the eviction notice was given to them last month.
Questions have been sent to the Fiji Human Rights Commission regarding the complaints lodged by the Jittu Land Trust.
We have also sent questions to the Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on the Jittu Estate issue.
He is yet to respond.
