Suva City Council with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency has today launched the council’s Solid Waste Management Plan.
The 10 year strategic Plan is formalised to align the current works carried out by the council to that in the plan to improve waste management in the capital.
SCC Senior Health Inspector Naresh Narayan says that the focus is to ensure that the Capital is kept clean despite challenges identified based on expected social and economic conditions in the future.
Narayan says that the council have in the past few years were able to maintain its expense on the allocated budget in keeping Suva clean at 18% from the total allocated budget.
He adds that the plan is also designed to adopt the concept of reduce, refuse, reuse, recycle and return to seek economic efficiency and to reduce the environmental burden effectively.
