A new software is being developed by the Australian Customs Authority which is aimed at tracking the movement of yachts that come into the region.
This was reveled today by the CEO of Fiji Revenue Customs Authority Visvanath Das who was asked by Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee On Economic Affairs Vijay Nath on why are yachts not being monitored when they come into the country.
While making a submission on the Financial Intelligence Unit Report for 2015, Das said that the software which is being developed by the Australian Customs will monitor the movement of each yacht that comes into the region.
He adds that the software can also be accessed through a smart-phone app.
Das says that they hope to have a pilot project for this software in January next year.
He added that those in the villages near the sea or those in the outer islands can use this app to alert the authorities of any yachts that come within the region.
Das says that customs agents will have access to this from anywhere.
