Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said there is a shortage of doctors in the country and Nadi is also experiencing this.
Bainimarama told the residents of Nawaicoba, Nadi yesterday afternoon that he always gets phone calls from patients who visit Nadi hospital and they tell him that there is a lack of doctors.
Residents of Nawaicoba asked the Prime Minister if their nursing station could be upgraded which provides health care to about 5,000 people.
The residents have urged Bainimarama to upgrade the nursing station into a health center.
Meanwhile, Bainimarama had said last week that in the past six years, his government has created 696 new jobs for doctors in the Ministry of Health and 1,510 new positions for nurses.
He also highlighted that they have increased the number of medical professionals being trained in Fiji and overseas.
Bainimarama visited Nawaicoba yesterday as around 400 houses in the area have started to receive tap water.
Advisory Councillor of Nawaicoba, Umesh Narain said people of Nawaicoba are very grateful to the current government for providing them a basic need.
