The sentencing of a man convicted for rape has been adjourned to allow a Senior Psychologist to testify where the accused who is mentally ill should be kept after being sentenced.
The 38-year-old man who has been diagnosed with Organic Personality Disorder and Epilepsy has been found guilty of raping a 3 year old girl in Lau in June 2015.
Defence lawyer Lavinia David has told High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza that the man has a mental illness and has asked the court to consider that when sentencing.
David says there is no other mental facility other than St.Giles Hospital to keep patients like her client.
She has requested that the court get the Senior Psychologist at the Fiji Corrections Centre Dr Elenani Vuru to testify where to keep the man.
The case as been adjourned to next Tuesday.
