Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa has today called on students, teachers and parents to exercise restraint in dealing with the aftermath of the tragic loss of the form seven Lautoka student.
She said at this time people’s efforts and concerns should be directed towards supporting the family of the student as they try to cope with this awful tragedy.
Ro Teimumu said bullying the bully will not resolve the problem as it will only amplify bullying as a means of discipline.
She said counseling is one of the effective means of helping to deal with such a traumatic situation.
The Opposition Leader said many people in Fiji do not seek counseling because they associate it with mental disorder.
Ro Teimumu said counseling can help overcome concerns and issues that they don’t feel comfortable talking about to friends, parents, teachers and elders.
She also encourages all students, teachers and parents affected by this tragic event to seek counseling.
