The security of the current Fiji Police Headquarters is a concern and it is time the force relocates to a more secure environment.
This was highlighted by Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, Alex O’Connor while presenting the committee’s recommendations on the Fiji Police Force Annual Report from August 2016 to July 2017.
O’Connor says the Committee would like to see a technology enhanced and professional police force. He says police personnel welfare needs significant improvement, and emoluments and allowances should be paid where due.
O’Connor says they recognise that the Fiji Police Force has addressed gender equality and the Committee commends the achievements of women police officers who have taken leadership roles in Fiji and abroad. He says the Force has also recognised the impact of drug related issues in the society and the Force has established a Narcotics Directorate in its reform. He says the Fiji Police Force is undergoing reforms and restructure while continuing its core functions in maintaining law and order.
