Security cameras at Nasinu Secondary School have been repositioned after concerns that its previous locations breached students’ privacy.
Several parents had raised concerns that the cameras were too close to the toilets.
Eight cameras were installed in strategic locations around the school earlier this year.
They are now positioned along the school corridors.
A school official had told Fijivillage that the cameras were installed after reports that student borders were smoking in the school toilets at night.
Light sensors have also been installed in these popular smoking areas for students.
The cameras have the capacity to record 30‑days of footage.
The Nasinu Parents and Teachers Association partnered with the school management on this initiative.
The Ministry of Education has also stressed that they are working closely with schools who are in the process of installing cameras within their school compounds.
It says this is to ensure that students’ privacy is not breached.
