Sections of Ratu Dovi Road from the Nokonoko Road roundabout to Kinoya Road in Nasinu are currently being upgraded.
Fiji Roads Authority contractors, Fulton Hogan Hiways is carrying out mill and fill works on 500 metres of Ratu Dovi Road.
Fulton Hogan Hiways Surfacing Manager Greg Clark says the mill and fill involves removing the old asphalt from the top layer of the road’s surface and filling it with newly designed and prepared asphalt.
He says the upgrade works on the Ratu Dovi site at Laucala Beach requires suitably dry weather conditions with the project carried out progressively.
Clark says the operation on Ratu Dovi Road involves removing 56mm of the existing road and replacing it with new asphaltic concrete pavement for added reinforcement.
He says this process eliminates the existing potholes as well as giving a smoother ride to the travelling public.
Clark says the prolonged wet periods have continued to impact Fiji’s roads in both urban and rural areas, with Fulton Hogan Hiways crews responding to priority sites.
He says that work on pothole reduction sites on the Nepani and Nadawa road intersections are also progressing.
