The seasonal ban on Kawakawa and Donu will start this Saturday and finish on the 30th of September.
Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau says these two species of fish have reduced drastically in its numbers over the years.
Koroilavesau says spawning ensures that future generations will be able to enjoy the same species in years to come.
He added that the ministry will not leave any stones unturned to protect marine resources.
Koroilavesau has also issued a stern warning against those intending to violate this ban adding it is illegal to catch, sell and consume it.
He says they will continue to enforce this ban and fine those found to be breaching this.
