“School zoning is still in force for all schools in the rural and urban areas around the country”.
This is according to the Minister for Education, Dr. Mahendra Reddy who says there was some misunderstanding that school zoning does not apply to schools in the rural areas.
He clarified that the two kilometres radius rule is only for urban schools and does not apply to schools in the rural areas.
He added that all schools will first take students who are within the 2 kilometers radius and then they will accept others who are outside the boundary.
Reddy said those students will not qualify for the bus fare vouchers whose parents do not follow the zoning system and send their children to the school of their choice.
