A school teacher accused of allegedly raping and abducting a primary school student has been remanded in custody by Suva High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.
The man is charged with three counts of rape and one count of abduction.
The 13-year-old girl attended the same school as the teacher.
The incident happened on the 5th of this month.
Justice Goundar said he would not grant the man bail until he receives the teacher’s suspension letter from the Education Ministry.
Defence lawyer Jitend Reddy told the court his client was willing to relocate to Labasa and also tender his resignation to the Education Ministry.
Justice Goundar also ordered today that the man be taken to the hospital to be medically examined after the defence lawyer told the court that his client was allegedly assaulted in the remand centre.
