The Fiji National University's School of Maritime Studies has been renamed as Fiji Maritime Academy.
Speaking at the launch, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, an alumni of the School said this is a major leap forward for the country in the training of men and women who are relied on to carry us over the seas.
Bainimarama said they have rebranded this institution to act as that symbol.
He said the Fiji Maritime Academy is managed by Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College, under the banner of FNU and they have also given it a new symbol, which proudly reflects its new identity.
The Prime Minister added that Fiji as a whole is proud that already, the maritime academy has received certification from the International Organization for Standardization – which tells the region and the world that this is a place of excellence and worthy of international respect.
