The Savusavu Fire Station that has been opened by Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama is the largest fire station in the country and there are plans to develop this site further to include a Fire Academy.
While speaking at the opening, Bainimarama also highlighted that this is the third newly constructed fire station in the Northern Division in a span of 1 year following the opening of the Seaqaqa and Taveuni Fire Stations last year.
Bainimarama adds that this fire station is a $3.7 million government supported investment despite the many challenges faced by the National Fire Authority.
He says the new fire station will also see the provision of emergency ambulance services in Savusavu adding that the facility has a conference room, a control room, a fitness gym facility and office space.
The Prime Minister says that the Savusavu Fire Station is the first of its kind in Fiji that has a fireman’s pole that is supposed to enable the firefighters to slide down quickly from their dormitory that is on the top floor.
Bainimarama has also revealed that NFA has plans to continue with expansion into another 11 areas that include, Navua, Deuba, Sigatoka, Ba, Rakiraki Korovou, Nadi, Lautoka, Labasa, Savusavu and Taveuni as some stations still need to be upgraded.
He says that he is pleased to see the completion of new developments for the Northern Division as it continues to reflect government’s determination to promote economic investments in the North.
