Sangeeta Devi to be sentenced today

Sangeeta Devi who was charged with the murder of her new born baby will be sentenced today at the Suva High Court.

High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera had not found Devi guilty for a count of murder but an alternate count of manslaughter.

All assessors had also found Sangeeta Devi not guilty of murder of her new born baby but have found her guilty of manslaughter.

It was alleged that Devi gave birth to the baby on the 9th of January 2016 at her home at Khalsa Road in Suva.

It was alleged she wrapped the baby in a bed-sheet and placed the baby in the bathroom.

The new born died of suffocation.
